Gillian Coburn was in born under the South Downs and has been creating greeting cards and artworks inspired by the Sussex countryside for many years. Fascinated by the colours and textures of the flora and fauna found on her walks Gillian crafts her delicate and whimsical designs.
Many of the images Gillian painstakingly creates with pressed petals and stamens feature the elegantly attired, comical figures that are characteristic of her work. Over the years she has turned her hand to crafting brides clothed in cow parsley lace, ladies in gossamer gowns and quizzical birds fashioned from thistles and dandelion seeds.
Gillian was a member of the Ditchling Handworker’s Guild until it was wound up in 2012. The Guild was formed by the artist Charles Knight in 1952 to promote a high standard of the practice of Arts and Crafts, many of its members were artists and craftsmen of national repute. Gillian has also exhibited at local art and craft fairs and exhibitions.
